Allotment Christmas Past
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our plot holders.
A Frosty November Morning
Some beautiful photographs captured by Carolyne on a cold and frosty morning.
A Pigeon's Life
Not exactly the allotment, but I thought you would be interested in the lifecycle of two pigeons that were in our garden this year. From egg, to a sparrow hawk's Sunday dinner; the cycle of life.
Bonfire BBQ 2017
Thanks for everyone who turned out for this years BBQ bonfire. Despite a poor forecast the weather was (mostly) kind to us and we had around 55 people attending.
Awards and Festivals
Adam and YY are home!
For all those who have been asking about Carl and Karen's son, they are home and well! His homecoming coincided with Carl's birthday too. What a great gift!
Autumn on the Allotment
The season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. Check out the new dress code for mowing the grass:-)
Plot 20b Working Party
Thanks for all who turned out to help clear plot 20b. You were astounding! The plot was cleared in two hour thanks to the really hard work carried out by those willing volunteers. The day was dull and showery but you showed incredible team spirit. I am sure that you will agree that the before and after photographs are a tribute to the hard work of our party.
2017 Allotment Awards
Congratulations to all who won awards this year. Walton Road Allotments won best site in Sale for the 10th year running! Also, out of the hundreds of plots in Trafford, only 35 Very Highly Commended awards were handed out and our site got 3 of them!! Well done to all the individual plot holders who won awards and letters. This year the award ceremony was held at Urmston Lane Allotments. It was a beautiful day so thanks to those who turned out to support us. Here are our highlights:
Caution - Men At Work!
Well, we have a bit of a leaky roof. The cabin was flooded after the last bout of heavy rain. It will be out of action for the next few days whilst willing volunteers put it right. With a bit of luck it will be better than ever, but we ask that you bear with us until we get it up and running again.
Debbie & Steve's Garden Open Day
Debbie & Steve (plot 6b) opened their garden to the public on Sunday and raised a whopping £825 on behalf of the National Garden Scheme. They would like to thank all those plot holders who came along to support their day.
Raglan Road School Visit
We had a brilliant morning with the little tots from Raglan Road. We had lots of fruit, vegetables and herbs on display to touch, smell and taste. The children had a ball guessing what the fruits and vegetables were and all took home a goodie bag. Here are a few photos from the visit.
Summer BBQ
Great turnout for the summer barbecue, and after a week of rain, the weather was very kind to us.
Scouts Earn their Badges
Some of our local scouts recently earned their Environmental Badge on our allotment. Their mission was to put milk cartons in the roof of the bug house, add plants, neatly stack some new logs and weed and tidy the communal areas. I am pleased to say that they earned their badges with flying colours!
Summer is Coming!
Any time is a good time to go to the allotment but have you ever been there in the early morning? It's lovely and peaceful on the allotment in the early morning and you will never know who you will bump into. So drop in on your way to work or start your day with a visit. It's like stepping into another world. Here are some early morning shots.
Easter at Walton Road
I love this time of year when there is everything to look forward to. Here is what our allotment gardens looked like this Easter.
Spring At Last!
It may not seem it yet, but there are signs of spring all over the allotment. Take a look at our spring flowers, bug hotels, bird boxes and vegetables in preparation. Summer is just around the corner!
